भारत ने सात दशक में ऑस्ट्रेलियाई सरजमीं पर पहली टेस्ट सीरीज जीतने की ओर मजबूत कदम बढ़ाते हुए रविवार को मेलबर्न टेस्ट के पांचवें और अंतिम दिन 137 रन की जीत के साथ बॉर्डर-गावस्कर ट्रॉफी अपने पास बरकरार रखी. भारत ने चार मैचों की सीरीज में 2-1 की अजेय बढ़त बना ली है और अगर सिडनी में सीरीज बराबर भी हो जाती है तो प्रतिष्ठित बॉर्डर गावस्कर ट्रॉफी भारत के पास बरकरार रहेगी, क्योंकि उसने 2017 में दोनों टीमों के बीच पिछली घरेलू सीरीज जीती थी.

भारत ने अंतिम दिन सिर्फ 4.3 ओवर में बाकी बचे दो विकेट चटकाकर जीत की औपचारिकता पूरी की. जसप्रीत बुमराह (53 रन पर तीन विकेट) और ईशांत शर्मा (40 रन पर दो विकेट) ने अंतिम दिन बाकी बचे दो विकेट चटकाकर भारत को 150वीं टेस्ट जीत दिलाई. बुमराह ने मैच में 86 रन देकर नौ विकेट चटकाए जिसके लिए उन्हें 'मैन ऑफ द मैच' चुना गया. मैच के बाद ट्विटर पर टीम इंडिया को बधाई संदेश मिल रहे हैं.
