कोयले की कमी के चलते देश में ब्लैकआउट का खतरा मंडरा रहा है. केंद्र ने हालात संभालने का भरोसा दिया है लेकिन कुछ राज्यों मे हालात बिगडने लगे हैं. सबसे गंभीर हालत पंजाब मे हैं, जहां कोयले की कमी से गंभीर संकट पैदा हो गया है. पंजाब में पांच थर्मल पावर प्लांट यूनिट बंद कर दी गई हैं. पंजाब की थर्मल पावर प्लांट से बिजली उत्पादन क्षमता 5620 मेगावट है लेकिन उत्पादन सिर्फ 28सौ मेगावाट हो रहा है. सीएम चन्नी ने केंद्र से जल्दी कोयला सप्लाई बढाने की गुजारिश की है. पंजाब जैसा ही हाल महाराष्ट्र का है, यहां भी कोयले की कमी ने एक के बाद एक पावर प्लांट यूनिटों को बंद करने शुरू कर दिया है. देखें किन राज्यों पर मंडरा रहा बिजली संकट.
The Centre has assured that there are sufficient coal reserves in the country to produce electricity, but that hasn't stopped state governments to flag concerns about shutting down of thermal power stations due to scarcity of coal.
