आरक्षण को लेकर भारत सरकार की नीति पर अभी की स्थिति ये है कि सरकारी सेवाओं और शिक्षा संस्थानों में, यानी सरकारी नौकरियों और कॉलेज एडमिशन में कुल सीटों में 15 फीसदी सिर्फ और सिर्फ अनुसूचित जाति के लोगों के लिए होती हैं. इसके अलावा साढ़े सात फीसदी सीटें सिर्फ और
सिर्फ अनुसूचित जनजाति में आने वाले लोगों के लिए होती हैं, 27 फीसदी सीटें सिर्फ और सिर्फ अन्य पिछड़ा वर्ग यानी ओबीसी में आने वाले लोगों के लिए होती हैं. ये कुल मिलाकर 49.5 फीसदी होता है, बाकी 50.5 फीसदी सीटों में सभी वर्गों की दावेदारी होती है.
