फिल्म "मनमर्जियां" कई वजहों से चर्चा में रही. हालांकि चर्चा की तुलना में फिल्म की बॉक्स ऑफिस कमाई बहुत संतोषजनक नहीं है. रिलीज के दो हफ्ते में करीब 30 करोड़ लागत में बनी फिल्म अब तक सिर्फ 24 करोड़ से कुछ ही ज्यादा कमा पाई है. मनमर्जियां के कुछ सीन्स पर काफी विवाद हुए. सिख संगठनों ने सिगरेट पीने वाले सीन पर आपत्ति जताई और धार्मिक भावनाओं को आहत करने का आरोप लगाया. बाद में निर्माताओं ने फिल्म से तीन अलग-अलग सीन हटा भी दिए. फिल्म बत्ती गुल मीटर चालू ने वीकेंड में 23.26 करोड़ रुपये का कारोबार किया है. लेकिन स्त्री नॉनस्टॉप कमाई कर रही है.
