वर्ष 1888 में आज ही के दिन भारत के दूसरे राष्ट्रपति, डॉ सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन का जन्म हुआ था. इस दिन को वर्ष 1962 से शिक्षक दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है. राजनीति में आने से पहले डॉ सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन ने अपने जीवन के 40 साल शिक्षक के रूप में व्यतीत किये थे. 1931 में उन्हें knighthood की उपाधि से सम्मानित किया गया था.
