43 साल बाद मोदी सरकार एक बदलाव करने जा रही है, ये बदलाव लड़कियों की शादी की उम्र को लेकर है. शादी के लिए लड़कियों की उम्र 18 से बढ़ाकर 21 साल करने के प्रस्ताव को केंद्रीय कैबिनेट ने मंज़ूरी भी दे दी है, अब मोदी सरकार मौजूदा कानूनों में संशोधन करके इसे लागू करेगी लेकिन बेटियों के लिए मोदी सरकार के इस बदलाव में समाजवादी पार्टी पलीता लगाने आ गई है. समाजवादी पार्टी के सांसद शफीकुर्रहमान बर्क ने सवाल खड़ा कर दिया है कि अगर लड़कियों की शादी की उम्र बढ़ाई गई, तो लड़कियों को ज़्यादा आवारगी का मौका मिलेगा. उसके बाद बर्क साहब के पास इस बयान से पलटने के अलावा दूसरा चारा नहीं था, लिहाज़ा जैसा की राजनीतिक में पुराना चलन है. उन्होंने कहा कि मेरे बयान का वो मतलब नहीं था. शफीकुर्रहमान भी अपने बयान पर परंपरागत पैंतरा आज़माते हुए नज़र आए. देखें ये एपिसोड.

Shafiqur Rahman said marrying off daughters by 18 would be a relief for parents. He has given a controversial statement over this by questioning the logic behind the move, rejecting the argument that such a law would make women independent. Shafiqur Rahman said that why do you want to make them independent? It should not happen.
