सियासी दूरियां होने के बावजूद प्रधानमंत्री मोदी और मुलायम सिंह के बीच कभी कटुता नहीं रही. पीएम मोदी ने हमेशा मुलायम का सम्मान किया और मुलायम ने भी उन सम्मानों का मान रखा. पहली बार प्रधानमंत्री उम्मीदवार बनने के बाद मुलायम ने नरेंद्र मोदी को शुभकामनाएं और नसीहतें दी तो उन्होंने भरी संसद में उम्मीद जताई कि मोदी दूसरी बार भी प्रधानमंत्री बनेंगे.
